As you may know, I very rarely scrapbook chronologically. I get tired of snow and Christmas when I'm freezing and have 5 more months in Michigan until spring! I like to pull up pictures and see what blows my hair back :) Hence, summer 2009 pictures at Thanksgiving 2011.
Store will be closing at 5:00 tonight so I can get to Trunk N' Treat with my sweet family. If anyone is in Saranac with little ones it is located in the Galilee parking lot across from Saranac High School from 6-8. Enclosed by all the cars with games and treats in them it's a great place for a safe, fun Halloween.
Purchase your kit for $6 and turn in your finished project by the end of October. Winner by customer vote will be awarded a $10 store gift certificate. All other entrants will be placed in a random drawing for a free November kit- which is totally amazing as well!
Gabriel came up to me and told me he wanted to show me something. He jumped on a bike and off he went. Today, he brought me over to show me his dead toad that he found the other day but alas, I felt no inspiration to scrap that :) Oh, how fast they grow!!!

These are the photos I took while the photographer, Melissa Price of Signature Photography Studios, was trying the get the cousins picture perfect! 15 children under 12 years old with energy, moose and rabbit ears, silly Uncle Jon and a feather duster for tickling and we still got great shots from Melissa....amazing!!
I sometimes forget to capture the everyday moments with the camera. My kids love to dress up and then play in the dress up clothes. I decided that, even though this is a common occurrence (maybe not with a bare bum), I needed to memorialize a few select moments. I love these photos!
My advice is to take pictures of "normal" stuff your kids do. A friend of mine once told me one of his family family videos is a night they set the camera on a tri-pod and just let it run.
Captions read: Up-do, Accessories, and Poise and Grace.
I realized when I took the photo that "Grace" fell off...how appropriate :)
To be more modest (I don't know if it worked ;) I made the photo in black and white and highlighted the princess dress up clothes in color using free Picnik software.
Here is the new challenge kit for this month. Cost is $6. Pick any other item for $2 or less and there's your kit!

OK, this layout was totally playing. I used a black paint dabber to cover the lamp post with gold stickles behind it to make it look lit. I also used the paint as an adhesive for the thin pink paper. Photo doesn't show it well but the "Grandma's Featherbed" sign is completely covered in Glossy Accents and it came out great. The biggest problem I had was adhering my photos to the blue glitter paper. I finally ended up using the Glossy Accents again!
Anyway, I had to have a good time doing the layout. Just look at the fun the girls were having when I took the pictures!
This double 12 x12 wire rack is only $60 and has 30 slots. Single racks also available for only $30. This is a great way to organize your papers in color groups, by child, by holiday or any other way you can imagine.
These gorgeous racks just came in from Ohio. They are a maple finish and fit 44 paper trays comfortably with 88 different slot choices using pegs for easy arrangement options. There are also embellishment bins available as shown by the 2 on the right. Racks come with any combination of 44 paper or embellishment trays. These double racks are no longer available from the manufacturer but their single racks retail for over $300 plus s/h. This is a great opportunity for the beautiful craft room you've always wanted at an affordable price. There are limited numbers so don't wait too long to rearrange your dream craft room!!
March Challenge Kit winner as voted by customers is Chrisna. Using the kit she created this super cute double page layout of a little girl and her daddy. Awwwwwww! Great job, Chrisna, and everyone else who submitted projects.
I will also add a note that Mary Alice has been unchallenged for several months submitting a card using the Challenge Kit. She has some competition now and says to the rest of you, "Bring it!" I can't wait to see what you all come up with!
For those who purchase the kit and do a layout I have an offer. You may purchase an Add-on Challenge Kit. Pay $2 more ($8 total for your kit) and you may submit 2 projects from the same kit. You may choose any two of the following three catagories: 1) layout, 2) card or 3) other.
I recently had the question posed to me about how to orgainize photos. My advice for organizing photos would be the same advice I give to my customers just starting scrapbooking: start current. Under the same philosophy of Dave Ramsey and pay off small debts first...it's encouraging. You are more likely to remember details and can tuck notes in with the pics.
If you organize your photos by date I would work back from there. Depending on how many photos you have and how much time you have to work on them do a month, season or year at a time. So 2011, 2010, etc. If you organize in a different way then work back from your last trip or the last event.
I would highly recommend that as you go through them you tuck in little cards of notes with dates, names and memories. Even if you never get them scrapped, they will be helpful to future generations.
P.S. Don't be afraid to get them out with a group and video you going through the pictures. It's fun to hear everyone else's memories and many hands make light work!
Sorry I don't have photos for this but we're mostly digital. I will admit that I have mostly avoided the two years we have of #1 before we modernized.
Arghhh! For anyone with a blog using Google Chrome you may want to use Firefox to edit unless you know HTML! I don't, in case you wondered. For those of you who don't know or care what Chrome is just skip this and look at the pretty picture below :)
Missy has had her cards for next class here for a week and I haven't been able to figure how to update. We're good now. So, without further ado...
You may not believe it but I rarely have time to scrapbook. When I do it's often because someone else sets a goal/deadline for me. (Yay for SoulScrappers!) This challenge is a list of items much like my Reduce Challenge to you. Anyway, after finding the perfect picture of Elizabeth just longing to go out in the snow it kind of just all came together. Enjoy!
I just love digital. I can take millions of pictures (give or take) and usually get that one perfect shot. No more paying to develop the picture of your child grabbing the camera or your left shoe or even the inside of the camera bag. See....perfect shot:
The problem is that I then have the million pictures (give or take) and I have to go through them all when scrapbooking. I have blurry ones and ones with a child picking her nose, a messy garage in the background and the ever-popular one or all children not looking!
So, although I don't really do New Year Resolutions I am going to clean up my photos. Every day I get on the computer I am going to go through one month's photos starting today with January 2011. I am only keeping pictures good enough to frame or scrapbook. My husband will be shocked that I have more space on my computer! I hope this will help me save time when I go to print my photos. I'll keep you posted...
I guess with 5 kids you no longer get those stock model-type photos for Christmas :) A few of the kids and all the dolls smiling and looking at the camera is what I am learning to be content with lately. Where is Melissa of Signature Studios when I need her? I suppose we can't afford to have her come to all our holiday and special occasion gatherings....
